Land & people

Land & people

That's the name of the company behind L'Arbre à Café. In three words, it says it all, or most of it. The work of L'Arbre à Café is part of this relationship between the land and the people, from the producer to the taster.

Since its creation in 2009, L'Arbre à Café has had one guideline, and one only: to select rare species or varieties, such as Bourbon Pointu or Liberica, the best specialty coffees, from a specific terroir, from a specific plot of land, and fermented in a single way. A Burgundian approach to the product, for singular coffees with precise, clean and pure characteristics. Coffees that are grown by the growers in full environmental harmony.

Almost all of the lots bought today by L'Arbre à Café come from plantations where the coffee tree is grown.
biodynamic, organic or natural agriculture, and where agro-forestry is cultivated.

90% of the coffees are bio-dynamic, 80% are bought directly from the producers, 100% at a fair price, well above the
market. Firmly committed to sustainable and innovative agriculture, Terres et Hommes also advocates social intelligence.

WITHOUT MUTUAL TRUST, NO GOOD COFFEE

WITHOUT MUTUAL TRUST, NO GOOD COFFEE

In transactions, no middlemen, short channels and a purchase price that allows the producer to invest in quality.

An approach that allows families to live from their work, to be proud of it, where a whole market is characterized by extraordinarily low and volatile prices. We are far from the gringo caught with his hand in the jute bag, we are even largely above the standards of fair trade and organic.

The collaboration between L'Arbre à Café and its producers goes far beyond a strict commercial relationship. Each one is enriched by the knowledge of the other, with a single objective: to constantly improve the quality of the coffee. Soil maintenance, crop management, harvesting, fermentation, drying, roasting, each step is essential.

Without a permanent exchange between the farmer and the buyer, without mutual trust, no good coffee.

The know-how developed is such that today L'Arbre à Café is active as a quality consultant for other producers in the tropical world. Even though the company has grown, the close ties with the growers have never weakened. Today there are just over a dozen producers spread over 4 continents and all over the tropical belt, where coffee grows.
