Peru is home to the oldest traces of cocoa, consumed as a beverage 5,000 years ago. Gran Palo Blanco is a variety endemic to the Chulucanas region, and its name refers to the high proportion of white, more delicate beans. The Norandino cooperative helps the 30 producers select the best cocoa trees, grown in agroforestryalongside avocado and banana trees. This bean is one of Peru's most prized.
