Choosing the right coffee for your Italian coffee maker

which coffee for your italian coffee maker ?

Want to make good coffee with your Italian coffee maker? Know how to choose your coffee for your Moka coffee maker (the other name of the Italian coffee maker)?

If you wish, and before getting to the heart of the matter, you will find here a short historical reminder of this invention which is present today in thousands of homes and which makes the daily happiness of coffee lovers.

As always, the most important thing to do before starting is to choose the right coffee by asking yourself the right questions: what is its origin? Is it Arabica, Robusta or a mixture of both? Is it a strongly roasted coffee or a name? Is it adapted to an Italian Bialetti coffee maker (surely the most famous and emblematic) or others?

These questions must be treated seriously because all the characteristics of your coffee and the way you prepare it will determine how it looks in the cup and, most importantly, how it tastes.

What parameters will most influence the final preparation?

Roasting is one of the main parameters, directly influencing bitterness or acidity. Indeed, a coffee that is too roasted, or even over-roasted, will tend to create a lot of bitterness. On the other hand, a coffee that is not roasted very much will give off more acidity.

So, what to do? How to find the right balance? We advise you to turn to medium roasts, neither too light nor too dark, slightly amber, like those we offer at L'Arbre à Café, in order to have a better length in the mouth and deeper aromas.

The choice of the variety will also determine the final result. To put it more bluntly, choosing between an Arabica-based coffee and a Robusta-based coffee is a bit like choosing between a Bordeaux wine and a Burgundy wine. If you are looking for a strong intensity and a thicker finish, then robusta is for you.

On the contrary, if you want to discover something more balanced and lighter in the mouth, then don't hesitate to turn to coffees for Italian coffee maker based on arabica. And if you can't make up your mind, there are also very good blends, which successfully combine the strength of robusta with the balance of arabica.

How to choose the right grind for your Italian coffee maker?

Italian coffee maker, what dosage ?

Once you are clear on the type of grind you need to produce, you will have to dose your coffee well to get the best possible result in the cup. For two cups, the classic doses are 30cl of water and 25g of grind. Then you just have to adapt this ratio according to the number of cups you want to make.
